What does Microcopy mean?

Microcopy refers to the short texts in a user interface that help people understand what they should do, what is happening or what will happen next. It includes button labels, form field labels, error messages, confirmation messages, hints or instructions in the cart and checkout process. Although these are very short texts, they can significantly affect the usability of a website and the overall impression of a brand. Good microcopy should be brief, clear, specific and suited to the user's situation. In e-commerce, it can help reduce uncertainty, prevent errors and make it easier to complete important steps.
