What does Merchandising mean?

Merchandising is a set of activities focused on how products are presented and arranged to make choosing easier for customers and support sales. In brick-and-mortar stores, it includes product placement, working with shelves, price tags or promotional materials. In e-commerce, it concerns mainly product sorting in categories, highlighting bestsellers, new arrivals or promotions, recommending related goods and working with banners and product collections. The goal is to show customers a relevant offer at the right time and in the right place. E-commerce merchandising often also uses data on sales, visitor behavior, margins or product availability.
