What does HTML tags mean?

HTML tags are elements of the HTML markup language that define the meaning and structure of content on a web page. Tags are used to mark headings, paragraphs, links, images, lists, tables or forms. Most tags have an opening and a closing form, with content placed between them, for example <p>text</p>. Some tags can also contain attributes that add further information or set their properties. Using HTML tags correctly helps browsers, search engines and assistive technologies better understand the page structure and the meaning of its individual parts.
