What does Engagement mean?

Engagement refers to the degree to which users interact with content, a brand, a website or other digital communication. It expresses whether and how actively people work with content instead of just passively viewing it. On social media, it can show up as reactions, comments, shares, clicks or video views. For websites or apps, it is tracked through active usage time, number of pages viewed or completed conversions. Engagement is not a single universal metric; how it is calculated and what it means vary by platform and goal. It is often expressed as an engagement rate, the share of engaged users or interactions relative to a chosen base. In marketing, it helps assess whether content really resonated with the audience.
