The most common mistakes when writing product descriptions: do you make them too?

Good product descriptions can significantly increase your sales. Don't underestimate them and avoid these common mistakes.

The most common mistakes when writing product descriptions: do you make them too?

1. Duplicate labels

Avoid copying texts from the supplier or competing e-shops. Differentiate yourself from the competition and create an original label for your product. Give the customer as much information as possible and convince them that you know the area! You can also differentiate yourself from other e-shops with an original tone of communication.

2. Unclear labels

If the description is unclear and difficult to read, it will discourage the visitor. And you don't want that, especially if you've gone to a lot of trouble and the text is full of useful information for the customer.

So avoid long paragraphs and give it a try:

  • use subheadings,
  • highlight important information and product features in bold,
  • use bullet points, e.g. to list benefits,
  • add product photos or videos.

3. Non-compliance with the structure of descriptions

Once you've fine-tuned your product page structure, use it ideally for all similar products. When each product description has a different structure, it can be confusing for the customer - for example, when comparing features across multiple products. If, on the other hand, you follow a uniform template, it will be immediately clear to the e-shop visitor where to find the information.

4. Lack of benefits and competitive advantages

How does your e-shop stand out from the competition? Why should a customer buy from you? What are the main product benefits? This information should not be missing on the product page. On the contrary, they should be clearly visible! Highlight them in bullet points or graphically with icons that catch the eye.

5. Grammatical and stylistic errors

At first glance, a fairly innocent "flaw" that can rob you of credibility in the eyes of the customer. Take care with your text and check everything carefully. If you feel that copywriting is not your strong point, hire a proofreader or copywriter - it will save you a lot of time.
